United Church Women
United Church Women
Quispamsis United Church is fortunate to have two active UCW groups. The Agnes Allingham UCW meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 1:30 pm in the Church Parlour. On the first (or sometimes third) Monday of the month, the Adelaide Barbour UCW meets in the same location at 7:30 pm.
Each of these groups of women enjoys the fellowship as they contribute to the life and work of Quispamsis United. Fundraising from the two UCW groups has allowed the purchase of furniture for MacDonald Hall, educational materials for the Godly play Sunday School program and contributed to various Outreach projects, including the filling of Christmas shoe boxes each November.
Both UCW groups make an effort to send cards to members of our congregation when they are celebrating milestones or when they are experiencing personal illness or loss.
The traditional “kitchen” duties are also a key part of the UCW groups. Providing refreshments for important occasions is the work of many hands and the efforts of the UCW’s are sincerely appreciated by the congregation.
Adelaide Barbour UCW
Annual Report
The Adelaide Barbour UCW continued to meet over the last year, generally on the third Wednesday of the month. Our members willingly participate in many of the QUC Outreach efforts, such as the blankets and meal for the Joshua Group, the annual Christmas cookie plates and any receptions held in our hall.
Our own projects have been much the same as other years: the organization of the Bake Table at the Turkey Suppers in the fall and spring, the filling of Christmas shoeboxes in November, and the collection of toiletries for Coverdale Centre in December.
In an effort to help defray the deficit, we organized a lunch following church in February, which raised over $450. Karen Young gave us an introduction to yoga in March and in April a group of UCW ladies went to the movie, “Heaven Is For Real”.
Our dues are collected through individual church givings designated for AB UCW. This year we made a donation for the purchase of VBS curriculum, supplied a new coffee maker for the church kitchen and paid the handling for 19 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.
Plans for the coming year include trying to source or make more seat cushions for the sanctuary, as well as having some stands made to hold sandwich trays in the refrigerator during church receptions. In addition, we hope to host a presentation for all the UCW’s in the area next fall. Any ideas or suggestions for this would be welcome.
Respectfully submitted,

Agnes Allingham UCW
The Agnes Allingham Unit of the UCW meets in the church parlour at 1:30pm on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month, except January, February, and March when we meet on the second Wednesday only, and sometimes not at all due to the snowstorms, like in March of 2014.
Our executive consists of: acting presidents Annie, Edna and Lillian; treasurer, Gloria Moore; and secretary Margery Dunfield. Iris is our card secretary and does a super job of it.
We currently have 14 members. I am sorry to report the loss of 1 member, Dot Vaughan, this year. She will be missed very much.
A Valentine party was held in February with lots and lots of sweets, candy, etc., plus a Valentine exchange. It was great.
The World Day of Prayer was held at Saint David’s United in Rothesay on March 7. Annie was a reader and the rest of the members attended.
Our September meeting found us dining out, with Rev. Audrey as our guest, at the Hammond River Country Café.
Our projects included giving several prayer shawls to people who were not well.
A donation was made to the church in the amount of $350.00 from our funds to go toward the deficit.
We helped with baked goods at the fall turkey supper in October.
In November we filled 10 shoeboxes to be sent away, and closed out the year by dining out once more.
We are no longer collecting Campbell soup labels or used stamps.
That is it for 2014.
Respectfully submitted,
Margery Dunfield
