Quispamsis United Church Inclusive Marriage Policy:

Congratulations and thank you for allowing us to be a part of celebrating the love you have found in one another. As a Christian Church, we understand love as a reflection of God in our lives. We believe that marriage is a special covenant that lifts high the love that God has drawn out in two people.

Here at Quispamsis United Church we welcome and celebrate that love in the form of a worship service in which we acknowledge the movement of the Holy Spirit in drawing two people together in love, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, divorce, or denominational differences (you do not have to be a member to get married at QUC).

We also affirm that relationships require preparation, nurturing, and support, and so the first step to having your wedding at QUC is reaching out to our Minister (check www.quc.ca for contact information). Along with setting a date and time, our Minister will want to meet with you to get to know you, the story you share, and the shape of your love. These meetings are a form of marriage preparation to help you not just with your big day, but in the days beyond as you continue to follow the Spirit together.

Following the marriage preparation, the Minister would make a recommendation to the Council, the group responsible for overseeing the spiritual life and well-being of the church, which includes consideration of marriage requests.

It is also the policy of Quispamsis United Church that our Minister conduct weddings on behalf of our community of faith. Traditionally, the ceremony would be held in the sanctuary, though different venues could be discussed in consultation meetings with the Minister. Should you wish to have a second faith leader assist in the ceremony, you should bring this request to the Minister of QUC before any invitations are made.
